Re: Problem on my flowers in the greenhouse

Thanks Randy. I examined a bud that I found on the floor yesterday and confirmed a thrip inside. Small, slender and black. I ordered something called Conserve that seems to be highly regarded against this pest. Think I'll just cut all my flowers off and start an aggressive rotation of spraying. I gu...

Re: Problem on my flowers in the greenhouse

Thanks Peter and Kip. I found some thrips today and sprayed with imidacloprid. I'll do that three times and switch to Orthene.

I've been growing orchids in the Pacific Northwest nearly 40 years and never had thrips before. Always a new challenge to growing orchids!

Thanks again, David

Re: Problem on my flowers in the greenhouse

I have had thrips produce damage like this. A Bayer systemic product containing Imidacloprid took care of it but it took several applications. Thanks for the suggestion. I was wondering if it was a pest rather than a disease. Being of the age where seeing tiny things is harder, I have so far failed...

Re: Problem on my flowers in the greenhouse

Yes, Cleary's 3336 - but only after the damage started.

Problem on my flowers in the greenhouse

Something has invaded my greenhouse and is crippling flowers. Not all flowers are affected but at least half. Some older flowers seem ok but new and buds are being destroyed! See photos.

What to do???

Re: agdia virus test kit

Thanks for your responses. I started testing obviously stressed plants showing some necrosis in the leaves. Then those that always seemed to be struggling. Then, for no good reason, some that appeared to be thriving. Of 25 plants tested, only 5 tested clean. I was thinking of creating a virus corner...

agdia virus test kit

I ordered some agdia virus test kits recently and began testing. Testing started with some obviously stressed plants, some with necrosis on the leaves. Positive, so I tossed them. I had only 25 of the kits so was using them judiciously, I thought. A few plants tested clean but many tested positive f...

Re: Phyton 27 question

David, I haven't had any problems with a low to middle of the range rate. You may have problems at the high rate. Probably be best to use a bit of surfactant and increase the air flow until the solution dries. http://phytoncorp.com/wp-content/uploads/P27_-Spec_-US_CAL_2015.pdf Thank you very much.

Re: Phal gigantea question

Thanks for the advice. So - like most Phals except that it's a bit touchier? I'll wait until next spring/early summer.

Phal gigantea question

Given that Phal gigantea does not like to be disturbed, is there a least bad time to repot it? Spring maybe?

Re: Fungus on bottom of leaf?

Thanks Peter. I haven't tried treating for bacteria. I'll get some Phyton 27 and get started!

Fungus on bottom of leaf?

Here are two pictures, bottom of the leaf and top of the leaf. Is this a fungus? I've tried three applications of Thiomyl / Cleary 3336 but it continues. Any thoughts on what it might be or how to get rid of it? I cut off affected leaves, dust the cut with cinnamon, treat with Thiomyl and growth see...
