Photo update for 2007 per Mike's request.

This flower is not as round, that it is taller than the width. Award record reads 5.4 cm NS (Natural Spread), and NSV (Vertical) is 7.0 cm. Also shown in the picture below. I see that my big head is casting a shadow on this flower. NOt easy taking picture in one hand while the other one is holding a ruler.

Pretty good size plant that I havent repotted for 4 or 5 years. I use bark mix, mostly bark. I can't help but wondering if I may get more flowers if I use moss instead and the plant is better fertilized? In the early days of growing, I was very concerned about keeping species too wet and losing it to rot.

I am trying to make a cross between this flower and one of HP's deep Indigo violacea.

Peter, good luck with this cross. This should be a really good one. If you end up with flasks, I would love to buy one from you.

Best,

Rob

allright, thanks Peter for sharing this! I LOVE it. Exceptional color. Hope you get a good pod full of seed. I'm with Rob and think this could be an excellent cross. Great looking plant!

Peter, you have commented on how nice my plants look and I must say your bellina is one healthy, happy looking plant. And the flowers aren't bad either

Peter, Your plant is just GREAT ! Do you really want to put it in sphagnum? For myself I would just grow it the same way but repot it as soon as possible... And maybe you could stem it...

If you're concerned about it, just try sphagnum with a net pot, I've had great results with no rot, repotting is a little difficult, but if I am extra careful, I don't damage that many roots.

Beautiful. I too am having much better results with a sphag and bark mix. Bark alone was way to dry (as you have said before in other posts), but I was so scared of rot before too! Now that I am not spraying anything on the leaves, my rot occurences have gone down drastically.
