In my attempt to "do it right" I am reading tons of info from various places. I am hearing pros and cons of having orchids in the kitchen. Is it fumes from cooking, temperature differences, or what? I have noticed, though not a scientific study, that blooms sometimes seem to drop earlier on my phals in the kitchen area than in other areas of the house.

Hey, Hugh, you need to watch out for ripening fruit: the ethylene gas they emit can cause flowers to drop.

Ahhhhh....Thanks Rangiku, our fruit bowl is about 6' from where I've been setting the orchids.
