Phal violacea var. Malayan 'Jia Ho'

Wow, this flower has improved a lot since I got them in September.

Image

What I like about this cultivar is that it produced many flowers at once on multiple branching spikes.

That is really nice, would love to see the whole plant in flower next summer!

My plant from Peter, I just counted yesterday: in a 4" pot, it has produced 19 (nineteen) flowers on the current two spikes. One of the spikes is 10 (ten) inches long!

Interestingly, all of my previous flowers have also been "two-toned," but one that just opened is nearly solid, gleaming red-purple over the entire flower.

Peter -- correct me if I am wrong, but yes, not only is this a species, it is jungle collected from many years ago?

Thanks for offering it -- it is one of my favorites from you. Oh -- I will also add that the new roots emerging down inside the pot are more reminiscent of thick, modern Vanda hybrid roots than any Phal., species or hybrid. This is one horse of a grower!

Walton

This is the last of the 19 flowers on this large 4" pot plant. My "new" iPhone will not capture the color correctly: the color is more saturated and as to the texture, the flower looks like it is cut from fine silk. This particular flower is a bit two-toned: this plant has earlier produced one flower, like I mentioned, that is almost solid purple; all the flowers smell to "high heaven."

Still love it; still "thanks, Peter" for offering it.

Walton
