There have been quite a few postings of beautiful Phal. violacea coeruleas grown by Forum members from the Norton strain of violaceas. I thought it might be good to compile them all together in one thread so that everyone can find them easily. (So as not to infringe on the image rights of others, I'll give credit for each image and simply link the image rather than repost it on my own.)

I'll start things off by linking in the photos I've seen posted to date, starting with my plant of N9670. This cross is (#1 x 'Harvey') and represents a sister seedling to 'Gulfstream Blue':

Image

Also, from the N9670 cross would be 'Gulfstream Blue' from HP & Katherine Norton's website:

Image

I believe 'Gaston Bleu' and 'Blue Chip' from the Norton's website are also from the N9670 cross:
Image

Image

There is also cross #N9791, which is (#1 x 'Harvey') as well. This is my seedling from that cross:
Image

Cross N0230 is ('Gulfstream Blue' x self). According to the Norton's website, the first blue to bloom from the cross was from their customer Senchal Hatton, who provided the following picture:
Image

The N0230 cross also resulted in the following:

'Blue Fin Tuna' from the Norton's website -
Image

'Blue Sea' from Peter, posing to the left of a superb magenta violacea:

Two first bloom seedlings of mine:

Image

Norton's cross N0385 is ('Rachel's Blue Eyes' x 'Gulfstream Blue').
suweiren posted these two flowers:
Image

suweiren later posted this composite picture of 6 plants. All but the bottom-right one were from the N0385 cross:
Image
The flower at the bottom-right was from the N0249 cross, which is Phal. violacea 'Incredible' x 'Amazing Grace'. Both of these parents came from the same Norton breeding lines that produced the blue violaceas, but they have magenta flowers. Clearly, this demonstrates the latent blue genes in those plants.

These four are first bloom seedlings of mine:

e-spice posted this one from the N0385 cross:

Norton's cross N0390 Phal. violacea is ('Blue July Fourth' x 'Amazing Grace'). rbedard posted these two that he flowered:

And this is my first blue from this cross:
Image

Norton cross N0446 is ('Blue July Fourth' x 'Gaston Bleu'). rbedard posted this flower:

suss16 posted these two from the N0446 cross:

Peter posted for the Nortons their 'Mademoiselle Blue' from the N0446 cross, and this one received an AM/AOS for them:
Image

Also resulting from the Norton strain is the Krull-Smith plant of 'Krull's Navy Blue' shown on their website:
Image

Krull-Smith crossed this with the magenta form 'Crystelle.' ('Krull's Navy Blue' x 'Crystelle') resulted in a few further blues, such as this one of mine:
Image

This one bloomed by Robert Bedard was also from ('Krull's Navy Blue' x 'Crystelle'):
Image

TxRobNLA has posted two blues, both from the ('Krull's Navy Blue' x 'Crystelle') extension of the Norton strain, shown on his website:

'Sapphire's Navy'
Image

'Dainiji Aiiro'
Image

This one is from Ken Avant's sib cross of plants from the Nortons - posted by Dr. Stock:

These are all of the Norton strain indigo violaceas I could identify to specific crosses. Please add others here that you come across, and that is will be a good gallery of the Norton line.

Thanks ! We need a special page for this. But for now I'll make this post into a sticky so that it stays on the top.

I will not even try to pretend that I understand anything about crosses but I do recognize beauty.
Thankyou for putting this together. Stunning flowers. The colors take your breath away.

Thanks guys! It is indigo. About the same shade of violet/blue as the others. As usual difficult to capture the color correctly.

Here is another one from the 'Rachel's Blue Eyes' X 'Gulfstream Blue' cross...

Image

This is one of the violaceas I bought from the Nortons while HP was speaking here in Ca last year at the Orchid Digest Speakers day. I decided to call it 'Pacific Rendezvous' to remember the fun we had at the event. This flower just opened up this week. I thought the bright white area around the column was something different. It's very distinctive.

I think 'Rachel's Blue Eyes' X 'Gulfstream Blue' has yielded some of HP's best indigo violaceas. I have to highly recommend this cross if your planning on purchasing violaceas from the Nortons.
