I've been staying in Meanguera, Morazan, El Salvador for about a week now, and I'll be here for about two more weeks. Already I've seen lots and lots of incredible orchid specimens in situ, including LOTS of Encyclias, some Cattleyas, even some Catasetums! But this is the first that I've seen in bloom! I haven't even gone out hiking or in the mountains specifically to look for orchids yet, I've just been hanging out here doing the mission work that I can for and keeping my eyes open for orchids. I didn't realize how abundant some of them are! There are at least 10 different specimens in the tree right next to the house that I'm staying in! I found this one right in front of one of the houses I visited this morning.

Figured you were out doing mission stuff. Glad you get to see orchids in situ, too. Stay out of trouble...

I hope I find more too!!! I've found tons of orchids out of bloom, but I'm probably the only one who would appreciate those pictures. I'll post more if I find any more flowers!

Hi Martin,You would be surprised how much people can appreciate pictures of orchids in their natural environment, even if they are not in flower. The fact that you can see their growing environment can teach us so much about what we are doing wrong (or right) with our own plants.I'd say post a few of them, specially if you know what they are, and lets us see what they like in nature!Francis

Wow! That's really awesome to see! I agree with Francis, always love to see orchids in situ... Even better if you know what they are! ;)

Francis, that was my grandmother's name... Love that name

Was it Francis or Frances?

I ask because I am male, and although in my native Spain there is no mistaking my name, here in the UK, where I have now lived for 15 years, I still cause a lot of confusion. Probably my most memorable time was when my local doctor addressed a letter to Ms Francis Quesada-Pallares inviting me for my 'overdue smear test'! Lol!

Francis
