What do you like to use? I'm used to cattleya and use coco husk chips. I've lost seedlings to rot when compoting in sphagnum. Orchiata has a fine bark grade for seedlings and there's my coco husk chips. What do you recommend for a hobbyist?

I recommend that YOU use what YOU think you can handle the best under YOUR conditions. I like sphagnum, under my conditions, but that doesn't mean it fits well for yours.

You will have far fewer instances of rot (none, in my experience) if you treat the plants and medium with Inocucor Garden Solution, upon deflasking, and maybe give them a spray periodically for a time afterwards.

If you have had rot in the past, its probably because you overwatered. I know its the hardest cultural requirement to meet, but try sphag again and go easy on the watering !
Comparatively I have not done well in anything other than sphag for phal seedlings, but curious to hear from others.
