I use fishing lines to wrapped around when mounting phalaenopssi to a cork plaque.

Now that I have these neat looking cork tubes - I want to experiment mounting similar species/hybrid (Thanks Edward for the suggestion) to one tube. For example, it would be cool to see several flowering Phal equestris on one hanging cork tube.

I could use fishing line again and wrapped around the cork tube..but want to hear others thought on how to 'easily' secure small plants to cork.

Easy is the key that I am looking for. ;-)

I'm always using nylon stocking for mounting my orchids on cork. I'm just cutting a small piece when needed. That's easy to cut and this don't hurt the roots, they even are able to grow thru it. It is lasting for long time, and when the plant is safely attach to cork by the roots I carefuly cut it.

These are pretty cool, i'd like to see someone with a nice species mount on one of these. Is it hollow all the way thru? Maybe someone like Dustin has plants growing on this?

This link has great pictures of plants attached to cork tube, as well as display case, and watering.

I don't have easy access to nylon stocking. I might use landscape fabric - cut into small squares and open a hole in the center - and use staples to secure the fabric to cork. I just think it's silly to use fishing line to wrap around the entire cork tube.

If you wanted to avoid wrapping fishing line around everything, you could drill small holes on each side of the orchid and pass the line through them.

I found an easy way for me to mount phal to cork tube or plaque with a stapler gun. At local garden center (i.e. Home Depot), I can buy this landscaping fabric made of strings. I cut it to small square - it is used to keep a smaller layer of moss to the cork. Then I use stapler gun to secure the corners. And there it is.. It's much quicker than wrapping with fishing line. It takes too long to tie the knot with fishing line. Besides, I would need a better solutation later when my eye sight is not as good.

Here is the finished product. A bellina on cork.

Haa ha, took the question right out of my mouth. I saw the foliage, and the bud and thought....hmmm....maybe this is bellina? Very cool Peter, what's the flower quality like? I want one.

I am update this thread with pictures of my attempts.

I mounted Laelia anceps to this cork tube. It's been a year I think. See picture below. It was not easy. You have to use one hand to secure the plant and the other to loop fishing line a few times to secure the plant.

I have another tube where I mounted 3 or 4 Phal cornu-cervi. 1 plant did not make it - and I got busy and did not finish mounting other plants. I was going to mount different colors of Phal cornu-cervi. It wasn't until recently I have more plants with red flowers.

And alas Phal equestris cork tube was not never started. It's a project to complete this year.

Go and buy up big at your local supermarket! I'm sure they won't look at you strangely :)
