I have been growing a few of Peter's seedlings over the last few years, but count myself very much a beginner with them. They have all grown well except the plant shown in the attached image (color is slightly off). Although apparently healthy, this two-year old has developed a bark like growth on its stem which seems to be slowly spreading. The growth is not soft and does not look like any form of mold; in fact it is impossible to penetrate without damaging the plant. I have looked at it with a magnifier and it is not any form of scale or other pest. It looks much like the bark on a eucalyptus tree in miniature. Is it a cause for concern or just something natural which I have not encountered before?

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Peter
It looks like a fungal rot that dried up. This happens when water trapped in between leaves. The edge of that leaf had issue but the plant saved itself by drying up affected area. If it doesn't spread then there is no cause of concern.
When watering you want to avoid water getting into leaves or have good circulation where the water can dry off before night temperature gets too cold.
