I have been looking for the 3 supplements in the study and they are easy to find, but not at the same store. Shipping will kill you. Has anyone found at least 2 of them at the same place.

BTW I have been watering my plants with the Neptune's Harvest. My plants love it, but it smells like fish and butt.

Ben

Ben, I mistakenly bought the Fish & Seaweed and the bottle says it's odorless...NOT!! You're right it smells like fish and butt. I just placed an order for a bottle of the seaweed only....I can handle it's smell no problem.

Mmmmmmmm..... yummy :-)

You didn't happen to find any 2 of the above ingredients at the same place did you?

Actually since I made my post I've been to the Neptune's Harvest web page. I don't know what the article above recommends but the Seaweed only is 0-0-1 which is only potassium I believe. The fish and seaweed is 2-3-1, so it has a little of everything. You might be better off with the fish and seaweed, but only the dog will want to hang out with you if you spill it on yourself like I do.

Wow you're right about the fish and seaweed....lots of good stuff in it. Looks like I'll have to get use to the aroma...bluck. And yes I have found all 3 at the same place....www.htgsupply.com

I had a couple of questions about the Hygrozyme.

Is Hygrozyme identical to Orchid Champion? A product called Orchid Champion is being sold...advertised in the AOS magazine...and a product called Hygrozyme is sold at hydroponics stores. And both sound like they are identical products.

Secondly, if Hygrozyme-Orchid Champion is used to break down "residual dead plant proteins" then, does it not help to rapidly break down potting media such as sphagnum moss, bark, coconut husk chips, etc? Causing further problems with broken-down potting media?

Thanx.

Ed,

I'm no expert on supplements and unfortunately Wes isn't a member of this forum. However, through discussions with Wes it's my understanding that Hygrozyme was renamed Orchid Champion. Wes hasn't mentioned any issues with media breaking down, but again, I'm no expert on this matter.

I'm no experts on supplements and this is not a criticism of Wes. The manufacturer raises a red flag by claiming a specific gravity of "nearly 0". Specific gravity is a measure of density and is defined the ratio of a substance to water. The SG of Lead is about 11 (11 times denser than water) and balsa wood is 0.2. What is nearly 0? I am not sure, but i don't think that this product is, since shipping weights for a liter are listed at 1 to 3lbs, which is what is would expect for a liter of water.

Which product are you referring to? Wes' finaly recommendation lists 3 different things.

My chemistry and physics are getting old, but some organic compounds have a density less than that of water, so I'm thinking their effect at a small concentration might not be so much on the specific gravity.

Sorry, I was referring to Hygrozyme. I guess I would consider nearly zero to be something like 0.01 or less. I did some searching and found several tables with a 100+ liquids with SG of 0.6 and up. I did find ether listed in multiple places with a SG of 0.07 and 0.7, so I am not sure which is right. But I suspect 0.07 is not correct

I am interested by this thread, it has me curious.

As to specific gravity of near zero, hydrogen gas (H2) has a specific gravity of 0.0696 and liquid helium at 0.125. Maybe they're rounding to the nearest unit? ie: if specific gravity is = or < 0.4999 it's 'nearly 0'? I am led to assume that is their MO, or that their "specific gravity" is calculated off of the total enzyme mass in their aqueous mixture, and if this was the case, then 1% concentration of an enzyme with a specific gravity of 2.0, would have a ratio of 0.02. If they were to make that assumption though, thats fairly unprofessional.

I believe that Wes corrected some of the nutritional problems he had with his specific growing situation and has done very well. I would add that many growers do as well or better in their conditions without the additions of any of the supplements that Wes advocates. Before you run out and buy into all of these "cure alls" for orchid growing, I suggest that you compare Wes's growth rates and success with someone that grows commercially and does not use anything other than a good balanced "fertilizer" product and a good growing enviornment. I believe that Dr. Yin-Tung Wang presented a large amount of research on these topics that was published in the IPA "Phalaenopsis" and other publications.

Not sure whether is this available in US. Im currently/always using Yates seaweed extract and Zargo 63/67 twice weekly...it looks good for my plants.
