Getting A Greenhouse. Recommendations On What To Put In It?

Gotta do all my homework before getting the greenhouse.

OMGosh!!! I think my head is going to explode. There are so many things for a greenhouse... What I need is an expert to tell me what I need to buy and exactly what to buy.

I know for sure I want everything integrated. I am looking at the Link4 Greenhouse Environmental Controllers.

Misting System
Total newb here, but is this a misting system?

Scrach off the humidifier, you have no need for it. The rest of the items from Farmtek are okay. The main controller (heat, cool and whatever else it take care of) is a good unit as well as the controller for the misting system. No need for the rest of their stuff. In order to water, you can buy a small swamp pump from them, or can get it from Home Depot or Lowe's (around 130.00). This pump will pump your water to a hose to water your plants.
What kind of exhaust fans are you going to use? Very important to move volume of hot air out of the greenhouse and replace it with cooler air from your cool system!
I'm glad I don't need to deal with building a greenhouse anymore.

Ok, I've been doing more research and came up with this for an exhaust fan. How does this look for a 20x8x7 greenhouse?

Between the two misting systems I have posted above, which one would you go for? With one of these systems in place then I wouldn't need an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler)? I am having the hardest time trying to even find one.

Heaters? Would I need anything special or just a couple plug in heaters would work when the weather gets cold?

Circulating fans? Overhead, side???

Accckkk... The more I research, the more I need.

did anyone mention circulating fans,I have 2 in my greenhouse,1 in the left rear side and 1 in the front right,which circulates the air in circles and can a mister go under the binches and turn on when the cooler kickes in?glenn

I will have a mister on top and I do plan on having at least two circulation fans going 24/7.

If worse comes to worse, I will put a small A/C unit in to cool down the greenhouse.

What hubby does when I tell him everything that is still needed for the greenhouse. :drinking:

Good thing he loves to spoil me.

My son and his wife live in San Antonio -- What an Oven! -- Suggest you pay as much attention to the night time temperatures as the day time temperatures.

Or, move north to Michigan.

Spring is here, but we still have cooler evening (last night it was 49F outdoor). My greenhouse is kept at 60 F minimum at night. My 'Green 5' opened its flower but it is more yellow than green. I vaguely remembered that I got this plant in flower when Joseph Wu brought it to US in the month of July. That was 2 years ago and the flower has a nice green overlay.

This is compared to Taiwan's greenhouse now the night temperature is at 68 F at night with day time high of upper 70s to mid 80s F.

It's at a standstill right now. arghhh... Some parts were damaged so we had to wait for the parts to come in. That caused DH to lose momentum. boo!!! Parts came in over a week ago but DH hasn't touched the greenhouse since. He said he is waiting for his brother to come up and help him with the machinery and watering/misting system. Supposedly this weekend. We'll see... lol

I ended up getting the misting system, exhaust fan and controller that I posted earlier on. I have a 100gpd R/O system. I do need to run out to Home Depot and buy a couple of rain barrels for the water collection. And I still need to buy the Aliminet. That's just procrastination on my part. I need to measure the outside of my greenhouse. I am waffling on whether I should just lay the shade cloth on my greenhouse or whether I should rig up something so that the shade cloth is a few inches off. If I lay the Aluminet on the greenhouse, how would that affect the automatic louvered windows?

Aluminet will reflect light so you could just lay it on the greenhouse - and tie it down real well. I was told that the shade cloth should be a little bit smaller than greenhouse roof. You don't want excessive shade cloth that extend over the edge of you greenhouse. Keeping the shade cloth a few inches above the roof can be useful. Although I did not do that for my current greenhouse - I forgot about it. Besides wind cooling the shade cloth if you keep 6-12 inches above the roof, it would help bounce off these golfsize hail.

I don't have automatic louvered windows/vent on the greenhouse roof. Maybe that's a good reason to keep enough distance between shade cloth and your roof, so that the vent is not restricted.
