I guess what I am asking is how one defines a "novelty" phalaenopsis and how is it different from a standard phalaenopsis?

What is a novelty phalaenpsis ?
- Any phalaenopsis that is not a standard, large-flower (> 4 in.) hybrid is a novelty.
- In the 80s and early 90s, multiflora with flowers size at 2 inches were considered novelty.
- Novelty also describes flower colors that are less common, such as red and orange.
Advanced hybridizing and cloning technology make multiflora, red, orange, yellow more available.
- refers to smaller but colorful (usually intense color) flowers.
- This group has summer flowering species such as Phal. amboinensis and Phal. violacea in the background.
- Flowers tend to have heavy substance - longer lasting.
- Several varieties are fragrant.
- Bloom from new and old stems.
